Gateway 4 Project, Armthorpe - Readie Construction

Readie Construction was appointed as main contractor to deliver the 25 acre site, Gateway 4 scheme at Armthorpe in a 34-week programme which is expected to be completed in October 2020, which will consist of a 409,000 sq ft distribution centre with large yards on either side, 38 loading doors and extensive lorry parking for 83 HGVs.  This state-of-the-art distribution centre is being developed by Trebor Developments and their partner Hillwood.  The site has direct access from the A630, less than a mile from Junction 4 of the M18.

Perimeter fencing solutions worked with Readie Construction Ltd to help construct this new facility, installing the security fencing, acoustic fencing, timber fencing and gates along with rising barriers and turnstiles.  This was the second project that we have worked with in conjunction with Readie and now have several live projects we are currently working on with them also.

There are many security systems on the market and with our extensive knowledge in the security sector; we pride ourselves on delivering the correct product to suit the clients needs within budget and within the programme required.

We supplied and installed 675m of 2.4m high v-mesh security fencing to the boundary of the unit, which included several access gates.

We also supplied acoustic fencing at 2m and 2.5m high to the boundary of the site where the noise of the HGV’s had the potential to impact upon neighbouring properties.  The product we supplied and installed in these areas was Ransford’s prefabricated reflective acoustic panels on steel posts.  Ransford’s are a leading manufacturer of acoustic fencing and we use the prefabricated panels to save on installation time on site.

The benefits of this acoustic fencing are:

  • Environmentally friendly timber construction
  • Flexible system where varying heights and widths can be achieved
  • Meets stringent Highway Agency requirements
  • Category B3
  • Laboratory tested sound reduction up to 29 Db
  • Superficial mass ranges available (6.9 kg/m2 up to 11.66 kg/m2 if required

We also installed several manual rising arm barriers to the vehicle access points on site, these were installed for the security on site to control the flow of vehicles into and out of the site.

The project also required two turnstiles to be installed within the perimeter fencing to control employees’ access into site.  These were installed within a few hours, due to them being mechanically lifted into position by one of our specialist hiab delivery vehicles.

This project commenced in March 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic was in full effect which meant we had to adapt to new ways of working and ensure there were safe systems of work to protect both our installers and the other trades on site.  Despite this we still got the materials delivered and installed on time and in a safe manner.

Lee Chaulk the Commercial Director for Readie Construction Ltd commented:

‘’ This was the second project Perimeter Fencing Solutions had undertaken with Readie construction.  We have worked alongside Richard Salmon for several years now and he has always delivered the projects on time and within budget.’’
